John was anchor and captain of the team. We won our first two heats. In each race, Erich Kerckhoff led off, followed by Ashley, Colin MacLean, Diane MacFarlane and finally John. This is the second consecutive year the Hackers have reached the final. We hope to improve on our results next year.

Convergys Awash In Community Spirit

Roderick Stephen McRae, Cassandra J Berquist, Rolf Hansen (left to right), and Convergys colleagues run car-wash fundraiser for Heron Park Playstucture Fund.
Convergys employee and Rockingham Avenue resident, Rolf Hansen, spearheaded a fundraising event at the Convergys offices at Herongate Mall on Friday, July 17 from 11am to 4pm.
Their managers, trainers and other staff participated in the car-wash and also did a clean-up of a local park beside the mall.
We will keep you posted on the amount of money that Convergys was able to raise on our behalf.
We really appreciate their efforts!

Bottle Drive garners $600

Heather, Trey, Josh, Quinn and Jordan pose in back of Bottle Drive van.
It was a wet and wild, Saturday-morning Bottle Drive. We had a full complement of volunteers. Given the soggy weather, we were fortunate to complete Secord, Richard, Aldea, Clover, Gilles, Lasalle and Apolydor. We had hoped to go as far as Ohio, but ended our efforts after finishing Apolydor at around 2pm.
If you are still interested in having bottles collected, contact Colin at cmaclean_esl@yahoo.com or phone him at 613-863-5101. If you have returned your bottles and would like to donate to the Playstructure Fund, contact Maritala.
Thanks for your ongoing support!

Community Builder: Gabriel Giamberardino

Gabriel and Gabriella Giamberardino enjoy the July sunshine at their home in Heron Park.
In the June 2009 edition of the Heron Park Herald, Rosella MacNeil reported on Gabriel Giamberardino’s fundraising efforts on behalf of Villa Marconi Long Term Care Centre. Last September, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation from Villa Marconi in recognition of the work he and the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association (CIBPA) have performed in support of Villa Marconi.
Locally, he has long been responsible for running the cardplayers’ club in the Heron Park Community Centre. Gabriel’s support of the Heron Park Community Association’s programs and activities has been greatly appreciated.
WNP a big hit with the kids!

The Wednesday Night Program continues to enjoy great support from the neighbourhood. This photo was taken on June 24.
We took a night off on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day on the Hill, but we’ll be back in action on Wednesday, July 8. More fun-filled evenings of supervised activities, food and games.
5:30 to 7:30pm every Wednesday in Heron Park.
See you at the WNP!
