Our Neighbourhood
Heron Park is a charming neighbourhood in central Ottawa. The community is home to a mix of families, students, and seniors given its close proximity to downtown, universities, and family-friendly services.
The community is south of Old Ottawa South and west of Alta Vista. It is just south of the Rideau River and bounded by Bank Street to the east, Walkley Road to the south and Sawmill Creek to the west.

Residents enjoy green space at Bruce Timmermans Park, Heron Park, and Kaladar Park. In the summer months, visit Heron Park’s wading pool, supervised by City of Ottawa lifeguards, and enjoy the outdoor play areas and basketball courts at both Heron and Kaladar Parks. Kaladar Park also has tennis courts. In the winter, take advantage of volunteer-run outdoor rinks at both Heron Park and Kaladar Park. The neighbourhood even has its own community orchard, located north of Heron Park and east of Sawmill Creek.
Heron Park is a walkable community and has great access to transit via OC Transpo. It is on the bus rapid transitway, with stops at both Heron and Billings Bridge stations, and is served by local bus routes 140 and 141, and route 6 on Bank Street. It is also only a short walk from the Mooney’s Bay O-train station, which is part of the Trillium Line of Ottawa’s light rail transit.
The community is close to many services and attractions including:
- Alta Vista Public Library
- Bank Street shops and services
- Billings Bridge Shopping Centre
- Blue Heron Mall (Farm Boy, Ichiban Bakery, Maverick’s Donut Company, Pelican Seafood Market and Grill, etc.)
- Mooney’s Bay Park and Beach
- RA Centre
- Rideau River Eastern Pathway
The community is part of the city’s Capital Ward (Ward 17), represented by Ottawa city councillor Shawn Menard. The community’s Member of Provincial Parliament is John Fraser and Member of Parliament is David McGuinty.
